Wheelchair Basketball Australia (WBA) has officially released the 2026 competition schedules for the National Wheelchair Basketball League (NWBL) and Women’s National Wheelchair Basketball League (WNWBL), signalling the start of a transformative era for the sport.
The WNWBL season launches with a heavyweight clash as the Victorian Marvels host the defending champions, the Sydney Blues. This opening weekend sets the stage for a season defined by elite competition, culminating in a highly anticipated final-round rematch of the 2025 Grand Final between the Sydney Blues and the Sydney Lions.
The NWBL season is marked by significant player movement, creating fresh dynamics and unpredictable rivalries. While the league tips off in June, Victorian fans are circling Round 2 (June 19–21) for the Victorian Marvels' first home game of the season - a high-stakes "Victorian Derby" against the Red Dust Heelers.
A centrepiece of the 2026 calendar is the Indigenous Round (July 3–5). In a major celebration of culture and sport, the round will be hosted at Narrandjeri Stadium in Melbourne, the home of the Red Dust Heelers.
"The 2026 season represents the 'Beginning of a New Era' for Wheelchair Basketball Australia," said John Palmer, WBA Executive General Manager. "With the unprecedented roster shifts across the NWBL and a WNWBL schedule that pits the best against the best from Round 1, we are positioning our leagues as premier, high-performance products. We are particularly proud to bring the NWBL Indigenous Round to Narrandjeri Stadium, providing a platform to honour the historical importance of indigenous culture in our sport. With the Finals locked in for August 21–23, the race for the 2026 Championship is officially on. We are excited to reveal the host city in the coming weeks and deliver a post-season experience that sets a new standard for para sports.”
Fans can access the full schedule and keep up with the latest player movements via the newly launched Wheelchair Basketball Australia website and through WBA social media channels.
