Wheelchair Basketball Australia (WBA) presented by BrightSky Australia is pleased to announce that the Gold Coast has been selected as the host city for the 2027 National Finals Series. The two-year agreement will see the pinnacle of the national season move to Southeast Queensland, establishing the region as a premier destination for the sport’s flagship event. "What a coup, securing the Wheelchair Basketball Australia Finals,’’ said Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate. “The championship weekend boasts the top women’s and men’s athletes as well as a 3x3 tournament and gala awards nights. Hosting such a prestigious festival adds to our city’s major events calendar and underscores our commitment to attracting the best sports events on offer. Go the wheelies and leave it all on the court.’’

The move to the Gold Coast represents a strategic expansion for WBA as the sport continues to
modernise and scale its commercial presence.

“WBA is excited to partner with the City of Gold Coast, Experience Gold Coast, and the Gold Coast Basketball Association to deliver a world-class event experience in 2027,” said John Palmer, Executive General Manager of WBA.

“Southeast Queensland is a critical region for our sport, particularly as we build momentum toward the 2032 Paralympics. Our goal is to showcase wheelchair basketball as the ‘Formula 1’ of Paralympic sport—an elite, high-octane spectacle - and there is no better backdrop than the Gold Coast to grow the game’s reach.”

The partnership aims to leverage the city’s high-performance infrastructure to provide athletes and
fans with a professional-tier competition environment. Further details regarding the 2027 Finals will
be released in due course.
